Uganda Christian University retains IHL Moot Court title as the country’s future lawyers tackle the realities of war

Organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in partnership with the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS), the 2026 Annual National International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition brought together 12 of Uganda's best law students from four universities.

The competition challenged participants to analyse complex humanitarian scenarios, construct legal arguments and present their cases before a panel of distinguished judges and legal experts. Beyond testing legal knowledge, the event provided students with practical exposure to contemporary humanitarian challenges and the legal frameworks designed to protect civilians and uphold human dignity during armed conflict.

In this year’s competition, the Uganda Christian University (UCU) emerged victorious, overcoming stiff competition from Makerere University, Kampala International University (KIU) and Gulu University. This year’s competition was hosted at Makerere University's School of Law, the country’s oldest university.
